Zahra was born in Tehran city in Iran. She received both her Bachelor and Master degrees in Aerospace Engineering (Aerodynamics) in Iran in K.N. Toosi University of Technology (KNTU) and Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) respectively. During her Master studies she was engaged in the development of several grid generation and Computational Fluid Dynamics codes. Her Master dissertation was about optimization of transonic flow control by surface mass transfer over airfoils.

She started her PhD on the 1st of September 2016 at the Department of the Built Environment of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Her research focuses on wind energy harvesting in the built environment. During her project she will investigate wind flow characteristics and turbine performance in urban areas by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and wind tunnel tests. The results of her project will help to develop guidelines for the determination of best locations for turbine installation in urban areas and the suitable types of turbines for each environment.
